Why the Potomac at Sunset
Washington is a city built to be seen from the water, and never more so than at golden hour. The Washington Monument catches the last sun first, then the Lincoln Memorial glows across the basin, then the sky itself takes over. From a sightseeing boat or a bridge, you get a glimpse. From the deck of a private yacht, moving slowly past all of it with a glass in hand, you get the whole performance.
What to Expect Aboard
You'll depart from The Yards Marina, steps from the Navy Yard waterfront, and settle onto Geronimo — a classic Down East-style Mainship Pilot 34 with comfortable seating, an open cockpit, and sightlines built for exactly this. Bring your own wine or champagne, or arrange a curated bottle and charcuterie board in advance. Your captain handles the route and the timing; you handle nothing but the view.
Because the U.S. Coast Guard caps Geronimo at six guests, every sunset cruise is inherently intimate — never a boat shared with another party, never a table by the window instead of the window itself.
The Best Time of Year to Go
Sunset shifts by the season, and so does the mood. Spring brings cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin and a softer, pinker light. Summer evenings run long, with sunset cruises often departing after 7:30 PM. Fall gives the clearest skies of the year and the sharpest monument reflections. We depart rain or shine within reason, and if weather truly won't cooperate, we'll reschedule or refund in full.

How far in advance should I book a sunset cruise?
Golden hour departures are our most requested time slot, especially Friday through Sunday and throughout cherry blossom season. We generally recommend booking at least two to three weeks out, though we can sometimes accommodate shorter notice — check current availability on the booking calendar.
What's the difference between your two sunset routes?
Monuments at Sunset is our signature evening departure timed precisely to golden hour. Private DC Monument Cruise covers similar ground but can also be booked earlier in the day. Both are private, both seat up to six, and both can be enhanced with wine, champagne, or charcuterie.
